Description

Easily and securely control your smart home using your iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, HomePod, Apple TV, Mac and Apple Vision Pro.

Features

Home tab makes it easier to navigate, organise, view and control all your smart home accessories.

Categories for climate, lights, security, speakers and TVs, and water allow for quick access to all the accessories for that specific category.

A multi-camera view displays up to four cameras in the Home tab and you can scroll to view additional cameras.

Guest access provides date- and time-based access to locks, garage doors and alarm systems for visitors in the Home app.*

Robot vacuum cleaners can be added to the Home app and used in scenes and automations. Or just use Siri to “clean the living room”.**

Activity History lets you see a recent history for garage door, door lock, security systems and contact sensor events.***

Grid Forecast uses data from your local electric grid to show when it will be running on cleaner sources, so you can plan when to charge devices or run appliances. (Contiguous US Only)

Electricity usage and rate plan information are displayed for eligible customers when connecting their utility account to the Home app, starting with PG&E in California. (US only)

Siri makes it easy to use your voice to control accessories. Say a phrase like “Lock the front door” or “Play jazz in the living room”, or create a scene and say “Good night” to turn off all your lights.

Control Centre gives you quick access to your favourite accessories and scenes, and a dedicated and customisable section for additional accessories and scenes.

HomePod and Apple TV are home hubs that manage your home while you’re away. Automatically run scenes and control accessories based on your location, the time of day, a sensor detection or the action of an accessory.

HomeKit Secure Video**** lets you view live video and recordings, as well as get notifications when people, pets, vehicles or packages are detected from your cameras or video doorbell. View a 10-day recording history in the Home app, and you can share or save recordings.

Adaptive lighting***** lets you set compatible lights to automatically adjust their colour temperature throughout the day to maximise comfort and productivity. Wake up in the morning to warm colours, stay alert at midday with cooler tones, and wind down at night by removing blue light.

Accessories compatible with the Matter smart home connectivity standard are supported seamlessly in the Home app alongside your HomeKit-enabled accessories, so you can control them easily and securely using the Home app and Siri on your Apple devices.

* Requires the updated version of Apple Home and an Apple TV or HomePod acting as a home hub. Guests need to be using the latest iOS version with iCloud enabled.
**Available for homes using the updated version of Apple Home and requires a Matter-certified robot vacuum cleaner. Automations require an Apple TV or HomePod acting as a home hub. Control with Siri will be available in English (US) only.

Still in beta

This app feels like it’s still in beta. Now that Matter has finally been released, Apple needs to give this app the attention it deserves. It has wonderful potential.

Significant problems that I am witnessing:

1. Automatons work when “test this automation” is tapped, yet substantially fail to actually work at their designated times, or work but with a different colour profile?!

2. There is no “return to previous state” option, rendering any smart lights activated by motion to be just boring sensor on/off lights. I DIDN’T GET A SMART LIGHT JUST SO IT COULD BE BORING!!!

3. Gremlins! Why does the sensor light in the garage turn on the garage light during the day (which it’s supposed to) but then switch to the garden lights at night? (Which it is definitely not supposed to and has never been set up to do so). Why does the BBQ light come on at only 10%? Why does one light refuse to turn off? Why does a sensor still control a light that I removed from the sensor’s control? And many more…

I love technology, and I enjoy problem solving these things. Most people however will just throw their hands up in the air and give up. Why is Apple ruining the whole experience for so many people? Bad Apple. Naughty! Big smacks.

Lots of software issues, huge letdown

Ever since connecting to my HomePods many issues constantly pops up. I’ve tried updating to the latest version 18.2 however it has taken days to download, despite resetting it. Many issues when playing sounds, often my music gets cut off with relatively low crackling that comes and goes. It doesn’t support much apps either. My HomePod off notify the fact its not connected to the internet even though on the app it says it is, I’ve completely lost count how many times it has disconnected on it own. The sound is very inconsistent one moment it’s fine the next it’s gone or poor quality. With the home app, it takes forever just to load or connect with the HomePod. The biggest issue is just the reliance on wifi it’s a lack of versatility, it’s completely frustration. I’ve never been this annoyed by Apple product before despite owning lots of their other products. I’ve reset this too many times to even take consideration to try fix it.

Apple please fix iOS 15 home app battery drain

I loved this app with iOS 14 - it was just so clear, customisable and I felt really the best home app I had tried out. Since iOS 15 was released I am getting horrible background activity draining my brand new iPhone 13 pro max in less than 8 hours with minimal other activity. There are multiple threads on the internet about this issue and 15.1 and 15.2 are the same. Such a shame as I love this app but am really going to have to ditch it for home assistant instead because the battery drain bothers me so much especially when I bought a new phone 3 weeks ago. I bought my employees the same phone and they’re not using the home app - they are constantly telling me how great the battery life is!!
Gutted. 5 stars for app, 0 stars for battery drain so 3 stars overall.
