Editors’ Notes
It’s hard to make the best even better, but the sequel to Day One lives up to expectations—and then some. The app keeps its interface streamlined but adds a wealth of new valuable features. Your journal entries contain all sorts of information—you can geolocate them, add tons of photos to each entry, and even see your day’s fitness activity. Switch over to the beautiful new photo view when you’re ready to see your world at a glance.
Exceptionally poor support
First the positives: a great app for journaling. Easy to use and intuitive interface although that interface could be more attractively presented as it is something out of the 80s right now. The addition of photos to your journal is great and they are placed in the journal entries just as you would expect. After taking the Premium membership I decided to retro add photos to my journal and discovered a problem: when adding photos you are presented with a really well thought out grid of photos that are arranged by date. However, the latest version of Day One on the iPad always reverts to a date in early January and I have to then scroll back to the date that I want to select photos from. This led me to the incredibly poor customer service experience when I asked their support for help. I was answered with an automated email saying that technical support was confined to Premium users, which I am, and then a long winded set of instructions suggesting I look for the answers myself. I have not had any further response from support. If it was possible I would cancel my subscription and move to the app I was trialling alongside Day One before my decision to stay with Day One.
Developer Response ,
Thank you for your patience! We have had an above average amount of ticket requests at this time.
It sounds like you have encountered a known issue when using Day One on iPad with a Magic Keyboard. We are investigating the issue. If you disconnect the magic keyboard, the photo picker should not automatically scroll to a different date.
We do have an AI assistant helping with initial responses. If the automated response was not helpful, please reply to it and a human Happiness Engineers will be with you as quickly as possible. Thanks!
Day 1 journal
What can i say, out of all diary and journal apps i have tried this is most exciting. Love the way you can create entries and give them dates and times a good way in the past and see what the weather conditions were like at the time and location. App is so easy to use. When out and about you can create a blank entry to fill in later when you have the time. One thing i must say is that i hate the new date and time editor. I find it fiddly now and it takes much longer to change the time and date of an entry. They should have a setting where you can choose the old date and time editor. The dates minutes and hours used to go round in a loop. If i have an entry that was written at 11:58 and I want to change it to 12:01, you just had to move the hour slider from 11 to 12 and click the minutes 3 to the right. It’s not like that anymore. You now have to go back minute by minute and then adjust the hours. Dates are also fiddly to change in your new update. It’s horrible and if i am honest it has put me right off. It’s a shame as i have been using day 1 for many years, both the basic and premium version.
