Proton Drive: Cloud Storage 4+

Proton drive as a whole is a great service but the iOS app needs a lot of work. The servers are buggy from time to time and downloading large files is basically a no-no.

If there was the option to move photos directly from the folder structure in to the stock iOS photos app, en masse, that would be amazing.

However, this app needs a lot of work as moving photos from my laptop to my phone via proton drive is by far the least efficient option on the market right now.

Google photos/drive does the job excellently, albeit privacy is compromised, so if the team at proton could integrate something as seem less as that, this would be a game changer.

I’ll continue to support proton for the time being, until they get their drive app sorted.

Colour me suspicious re the ‘glowing’ reviews. This app doesn’t work with any other files app on iOS unless you disable EVERYTHING you want the app for in the first place. And after some bizarre warning about your choice of browser having insufficient service workers - that no other app in the lifespan of the iPhone has ever displayed - be prepared to feel like you’ve been conned after sitting watching the equivalent of paint dry, while some download bar goes all the way to the end only to get: ‘Download Failed’. They should have just called the app that! Reply: Thank you for responding, appreciate the time. Good to hear integration is ‘in the cards’. Re downloading: sharing a file via url does not work on iPhone using safari, DuckDuckGo or Firefox. All display this message: Browser might run out of memory Your current browser does not support the downloading of large files due to the unavailability of service workers. Several files of 1gb have been tested, the result is a 100% download + decrypt message - but no file is created or saved. Recipients see same result, no files.

However, we are working on supporting this functionality, as well as many other essential features, in the upcoming updates of the app. In the meantime, you can opt to 'Save to Files' and browse for Proton Drive in the offered Locations. Can you please share more information with us regarding the failed download in an update to your review? Do you encounter this behavior with a specific file only or all files? In the meantime, try logging out and then back in the app, to see if it helps. I’ve been using proton drive for a while under the family plan and it’s been great although it seems the iOS app is being ignored compared to the others. Basic features like uploading more than 10 files and the ability to backup photos in the background are missing. Also why is it limited to only WI-FI networks.

Although it’s missing some features that would make it easier to use, compared to other cloud storage apps nothing beats it. Along with the privacy and security to protect my photos/files not being pushed constant adverts or useless features is great. It does seem like the team is listening to their customers and trying to improve which compared to other cloud storage providers is great.
