Sofa: Downtime Organizer

Lists for movies, books & more

Sofa is a fun and visual way to organise essential but often overlooked aspirations, such as books to read, films and shows to watch, music to listen to, games to play and more.

The Logbook keeps a record of everything you’ve experienced, while the Pile is a place to put things you want to flesh out later.

What we love: How easy it is to track items. Just tap the big plus sign button or use any app’s Share menu. For media items, Sofa downloads a thumbnail, a synopsis, where to stream or buy it, and other details; use the app’s custom categories to track other fun goals, including places to visit and restaurants to try. You can easily assign ratings, add sticky notes and create Smart Lists that show, for example, every Italian restaurant you’ve rated four stars or higher.

Quick tip: Find something you want to enjoy soon? Pin it to the top of its list so you don’t forget. When you’re ready to watch, read or play something new, check out the Pinned view to see all your pinned items in one place.

Meet the creator: Developer Shawn Hickman – the designer for early versions of Sofa – taught himself iOS development to create the current iteration. His favourite feature of the app is the Logbook: “It’s basically a journal for your downtime and a fun way to look back as the months and years go by,” he says.
